Flood mitigation is causing road closures in Calgary while people across Alberta and parts of BC are warned of severe weather conditions..Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek announced the city is in a State of Local Emergency (SOLE) Monday afternoon.."At the City of Calgary, we learned many important lessons from 2013 when we endured major flooding," said Gondek.."Today, we have flood mitigation measures in place that put us in a better position than 10 years ago.".Memorial Drive is closed Tuesday for city crews to install temporary berms between 10 St. N.W. and Edmonton Tr. N.E. in order to protect homes, key roadways and critical infrastructure, according to a city media release..Pumps and stormwater outfalls are being prepared by city crews in low-lying communities..
