The federal government announced $77-million in new funding to help rebuild the fire-ravaged village of Lytton, BC..Minister of International Development Harjit Sajjan made the announcement Tuesday just outside Lytton, about 260 km northeast of Vancouver and home to about 250 people with roughly 1,700 people living in the surrounding areas..The fire broke out June 30, 2021 and subsequently decimated the village, killing two people..Most of the money, $64-million, will be used for the construction of “net-zero, fire-resistant" public buildings, and $6-million will go to the new Lytton Homeowner Resilient Rebuild Program, intended to support people rebuilding their homes to net-zero and fire-resistant standards..More than $7-million will be allocated to a program helping businesses get up and running again..“With this investment, Lytton will be positioned to become a leader in resilient, net-zero design that will support the community for today and tomorrow alike,” said Sajjan Tuesday.
