It may not be New York City territory – but the number of sexes recognized by the government of Alberta is on the way up.

If you go for a COVID-19 test in Alberta, you now have a choice of nine different “sex” boxes to fill in.

In Alberta, they are: female, male, non-binary, transgender (male to female), transgender (female to male), two-spirit, and “another gender not listed above”.

While the list is longer than the traditional two options, it’s still a long ways away from New York City which recognizes a whopping 31 different genders in their official paperwork. These include: bi-gendered, cross-dresser, drag queen, drag King, femme queen, pan gender, androgyne, androgynous, and gender gifted.
