A gargantuan, century-old fish, weighing north of 800 lbs. was successfully wrangled in the Fraser River, near Aggasiz, BC..The group that caught the fish was guided by staff at the Fraser River Lodge, who ensured the fish was released back into the wild after being measured, scanned, and tagged..“A very memorable catch plus some very happy clients,” said the Lodge on social media..“This sturgeon was measured at over 10 feet, making this a day for the books.”.The ancient fish is related to sharks, surviving from the age of dinosaurs. A white sturgeon can grow more than 14 feet and weigh over 1,200 lbs, and sometimes live to be more than 200 years old. It is the largest freshwater fish in Canada..At 11 ft., 5 in. in length, 56 in. in girth, and 800 lbs, the particular behemoth seen in the photo is likely more than 100 years old..Reid Small is a BC correspondent for the Western Standard.rsmall@westernstandardonline.com
