Edmonton councillor Mike Nickel appears to be the early favourite to win the mayor’s seat in the October election, says an exclusive poll commissioned by the Western Standard..But while he may be out in front at the moment, it appears the mayor’s race is going to be wide open..The poll, conducted by Mainstreet Research on January 18, of 1,113 voters found Nickel has the support of 29 per cent of decided voters..Andrew Knack is second with 22.2 per cent support, Kim Krushell has 16.9 per cent and and Cheryll Watson with 12.9 per cent support..Another 19 per cent said they wanted someone else to run.. All rights reserved. .“In the mayor’s race, we find a very open race between the four most likely candidates with more than 6 in 10 voters remaining undecided and nearly 7 in 10 (68.8 per cent) not decided on any of the four likely candidates,” said Mainstreet President and CEO Quito Maggi..But when all voters are considered, 62 per cent say they are undecided – meaning the mayor’s chair is up for grabs, said Maggi..Nickel ends up with 11 per cent support when all voters are counted. Knack gets 8.4 per cent, Watson 4.9 per cent..Almost 13 per cent say they want other candidates or weren’t sure..
