On the occasion of Queen Elizabeth II’s 96th birthday, a new poll shows most Canadians feel it’s time to end ties with England..Half of Canadians asked the question, 51%, say the monarchy should not continue in coming generations, said the Angus Reid poll..The other half are split, 26% say British ties should remain, while 24% are unsure..Only 25% of Canadians say the royal family is relevant, while 50% say they are not relevant to them personally..The poll showed Her Majesty is the last royal still capturing Canadian’s hearts, as opinion sways at the possibility of a different monarch..Only 34% of Canadians would support a monarchy under “King Charles,” but most, 55% want the constitutional monarchy to remain under the current Queen..Three in five (59%) of Canadians will be affected when the Queen dies, said the poll. Women who are 55 years of age and older are most likely to say this..
