A recent poll shows there's a three horse race for the UCP leadership in Alberta which will determine who becomes premier..Candidates Danielle Smith and Brian Jean are neck and neck for the lead in the poll with Travis Toews following close behind. The poll from Leger, released Sunday, suggests the greatest proportion of UCP supporters feel Smith (22%), Jean (20%) or Toews (15%) would make the best UCP leader..The poll suggests Rajan Sawhney seems to be off to a slow start in the leadership race with 0% support, while the poll shows former cabinet minister Leela Aheer isn't even in the race yet as her campaign did not register any support in the poll..However, former cabinet minister Rebecca Schulz and MLA Todd Loewen are still close to the starting gate with only 2% support..The survey was conducted in Alberta from July 15 to July 17 and polled 1,025 adults living in Alberta..At this point, none of the three front running candidates are showing any regional or demographic areas of strength the poll suggests..A whopping 31% said in the poll "I don't know" who to support but the poll did show that UCP supporters most strongly feel that the new leader of the UCP should have a clear plan to get Alberta’s economy on track and growing..It also suggests UCP voters will be evaluating leadership hopefuls in terms of the strength of their plans to get Alberta’s economy on track..The Western Standard reached out to the top three contenders in the UCP leadership race for comment on the poll.
