Officers with the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) arrested a Delta man after he entered a Yaletown hotel and randomly attacked two people..Providing vague detail, VPD said the suspect was likely ejected from the rugby 7s event at BC Place on Saturday before sneaking into the hotel where he punched and choked a staff member. He then burst into a guest’s room..“I can tell you we don’t believe the suspect was staying at the hotel,” Sgt. Steve Addison, VPD told the Western Standard, adding that the 23-year-old man is due in court next month with assault & break-in charges pending..The name and exact location of the hotel have not been released..The incident is the latest in a series of random assaults in Vancouver. Last week a man was walking to work near East Hastings and Columbia streets when he was stabbed in the leg with a hypodermic needle. The victim is the third person to be stabbed with hypodermic needle in Vancouver since last November..On March 27 an 18-year-old woman was walking with a friend on West Pender Street and Howe Street, minding her own business when a man violently attacked her, knocking her out. The man then ran away while the girl was left unconscious on the pavement..Reid Small is a BC-based reporter for the Western Standard.,rsmall@westernstandardonline.com,.Twitter.com/reidsmall
