They had moved into their apartment earlier in the day..Passersby stopped to help the knife victim who was bleeding profusely with the weapon still stuck in his neck..“It’s just absolutely shocking,” Julya Zan told the CBC..Zan, 26, and her husband Jorge Torres, 32, were driving by The Forks, a historic tourist district in downtown Winnipeg, Friday night when they saw the bleeding victim walking and holding his neck as cars swerved to avoid him.."He was screaming 'I need help. I need help,'" Torres told the CBC..The couple called 911, rushed to his aid, and told him to lie down..I’m just telling him like, breathe … trying to get him to keep talking," said Torres. "He's like, 'I'm going to die … I'm dying.’” .“And he's pretty much laying in a pool of his blood at this point.".Zan who arrived in Canada from Ukraine in 2010 was able to communicate in Ukrainian with the victims, neither of whom spoke much English..According to the men, they brushed shoulders with three males while crossing the street. When they tried to apologize, they were assaulted. Their attackers fled..Paramedics took the victim, who is recovering, to St. Boniface Hospital..The major crimes unit of the Winnipeg Police Service is still investigating..This assault came on the heels of two other attacks at The Forks last week. A father and his daughter were attacked Monday in a robbery attempt. Then on Wednesday two men suffering stab wounds were found in the area..Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February, a conservative death count as of June stood at approximately 4,800 civilians, including 330 children. An estimated 6,000 Ukrainians have been injured.
