The federal government continues to reference its principal government propaganda outlet, the CBC, to justify Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s invoking the Emergencies Act to strangle the Freedom Convoy protests..The Liberals based their decision onCBC reporting and began crushing the Freedom Convoy on Valentine’s Day, Attorney General David Lametti testified Wednesday night at the House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice..Lametti said he invoked the Emergencies Act after CBCNews falsely reported foreign money was primarily funding the protest..“CBC reported, I believe on the 14th of February or the 13th of February, there was foreign funding through a variety of different sites. He added the various pieces of information that we had explained the various measures that we took.”.MP Matthew Green (NDP-Hamilton Centre), who supported Trudeau’s heavy-handed decision, suggested that the Trudeau government should reveal exactly why it believed it needed to invoke the Emergencies Act to deal with a peaceful protest..“We’ve heard this from the Liberal side time and time again that these decisions were made on the basis of facts,” Green said..Is that the best that Lametti can come up with? So much of the reporting and so much of the comments from government leaders was outright fabrication and the Liberal government continues to roll out this mendacity in its feeble attempt to explain why it used draconian powers that far outweighed any security concerns..The CBC did its best to suggest the Freedom Convoy was all the result of evil American money even though the majority of the money from the crowd funding came from Canadians. Despite the initial claims from the CBC that a majority of the donors were from the U.S., 88% of those giving to GoFundMe were Canadians and — despite a false claim from CBC that only 52% of donors to GiveSendGo were Canadian — the actual number was 60%..There were no arms ever found by the Ottawa protesters. There was no hint of any insurrection. The story of a Freedom Convoy protester starting a fire in an apartment was garbage, but happily parroted by Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson as if the individual had been tried and convicted. Trudeau continued to speak of imaginary Nazis and white supremacists until he must have believed his own talking points..Lametti not only gets failing grades in research, but he scores low on the respect for democracy scale as well. He has actually compared donating to the Freedom Convoy to “terrorist financing” and suggested you “ought to be worried” if you support former U.S. President Donald Trump or his legacy..What we ought to be worried about is this clown is pretending to be an attorney general who has any respect for the law. Lametti knows full well invoking the Emergencies Act was a purely political decision, designed to punish Trudeau’s political enemies..I debated this issue Tuesday on B.C.’s most popular radio station where a left-wing pundit suggested the Emergencies Act had something to do with border security. Another falsehood. The borders were open before Trudeau pushed the panic button..Which brings us back to CBC. It’s not just that the taxpayer funded corporation doesn’t do real news and pushes out propaganda, it’s not even convincing propaganda. The CBC spent most of the Freedom Convoy protest isolated in its downtown studio doing endless panel discussions with left-wing pundits who all agreed with each other. A few of their reporters braved the February weather and ventured outside briefly while the police were pummeling the protesters, but they showed little interest in actually talking to these great unwashed truckers who understand what an honest day’s work actually is..So with Rolling Thunder on the way this Friday and Saturday — a Freedom Convoy of motorcycles here to honor veterans — how will the national media, governments and police respond? Bombastic and bellicose interim Ottawa Police Chief Steve Bell vowed to keep the bikers out of the city so we’ll see how that goes. No doubt Trudeau will imagine Ottawa being invaded by biker gangs and Jim Watson will be on the lookout for bouncy castles going up on Wellington St. If there’s anyone working on CBC on the weekend, they probably already have the story written and in the can..The problem with state media or state subsidized media is not just that it becomes an apologist for the government, but it ultimately becomes responsible for an alternate depiction of reality, the way the Canadian media depicted the COVID-19 pandemic like it was the bubonic plague and created a hysteria that bred lockdown fever..But regardless of how Trudeau’s laptop media wants to report Rolling Thunder, I’ll be there and if the bikers can get past Bell’s police service, I’ll be writing about what happens..David Krayden is the Senior Parliamentary Columnist for the Western Standard
