RE: UCP-selected winning 'fascist' essay removed from Alberta government website. In Alberta, we were told that the Her Vision Inspires essay contest has outraged Albertans because one of the winners was discriminatory and racist..So, I’d like to propose new contest guidelines to make life more democratic for Albertans..First, the title. The contest should be called the Her Progressive Vision Inspires essay contest. In a democracy only one vision should be allowed..Second, the purpose. Participants should be invited to describe a progressive vision for Alberta and outline how they would follow the progressive worldview as an MLA. In a democracy only one worldview should be allowed..Third, new entry requirements. Those who wish to exercise their fundamental freedoms of thought, belief, opinion and expression need not apply. In a democracy a diversity of opinions should not be allowed..And there should be no winners. Everyone wins because all the essays will be the same. And we all live happily ever after. How democratic!.If these simple guidelines can’t be followed, the contest should be cancelled. But this is a democracy, and we wouldn’t want to create a cancel culture now would we?.Ed Hoogerdyk.Calgary, AB
