While I have never been a fan of Justin Trudeau, I can somewhat understand what appealed to some people when they chose him as the Liberal leader and later as Canada’s prime minister. Trudeau provided a stark counterpoint to Stephen Harper. While Harper was seen as somewhat stodgy and reserved, Trudeau was hip and outgoing. Trudeau’s looks and flair swept some folks off their feet while Harper’s focus on policies rather than hairstyle felt dry to some..Those differences between the two may have felt refreshing to people at the time, but are they still enough to overlook the biggest gulf of them all between Justin Trudeau and Stephen Harper? That gulf is in intellect.. trud .Justin Trudeau is, without doubt, the most vacuous prime minister in Canadian history and he isn’t getting any better with age. The fact he has endured as prime minister for this long and remains in strong contention for re-election makes me start to question the intellect of the entire nation..How many more embarrassing gaffes will it take before Canadians realize that this is not a person who puts Canada in a positive light around the world? How many more vapid comments will he utter before voters reconsider entrusting him with the prime-minister-ship during this time of crisis? I fear the answer to those questions..I am not going after Justin Trudeau’s mental capacity simply to score partisan points. I truly fear the kind of damage that Trudeau will incur if he is given another majority government. We chuckled when he foolishly told us that the “budget will balance itself” years ago. That statement was considered by many to just be another slip of the tongue on Trudeau’s part. When Trudeau candidly said he doesn’t think about monetary policy this week, it drove home just how deeply out of his depth that Trudeau is. It should be chilling to us all that a man incapable of conceiving even rudimentary monetary principles is running our nation. We are more than a trillion dollars in debt and Trudeau doesn’t want to bother himself with thinking about it.. tongue .Trudeau’s handlers were well aware of his acumen deficit in the early years. They even staged a press conference where they put a chalkboard loaded with complicated formulas behind Trudeau while he read a well-rehearsed statement on quantum computing. Handpicked supporters furiously applauded but the public was hardly fooled. Trudeau can read prepared statements. His training as a substitute drama teacher prepared him for that much. It’s when Trudeau goes off script when we get to see just how shallow his depth is.. quantum .No number of staged events will change the reality Trudeau just isn’t a cerebral sort of leader. Again though, it appears so far as if Canadians don’t care. Liberal strategists are no longer trying to make Trudeau appear deep anymore. They know that they don’t need to. Glitzy events and carefully crafted woke statements appear to be what Canadian voters have been impressed with so far..We need to hear rational plans for economic recovery. We want to see a path to the end of COVID-19 restrictions. Instead, what we get from Trudeau is cringe-worthy attempts at being witty and woke by speaking of a “she-cession” and “she-covery.” As fellow Western Standard columnist Linda Slobodian put it, “Trudeau is the wokest he-feminist ever.”.Often when a leader doesn’t shine brightly themselves they will surround themselves with people who can. Trudeau’s cabinet choices have broken from that trend as intellectual lightweights Seamus O’Reagan and Catherine McKenna inexplicably held senior positions in cabinet for years. I understand not everybody can be an Einstein, but he had to have some sharper choices in caucus to choose from. Did he feel insecure and fear being outshone?.We are living through a world crisis like none seen in generations. We need leadership that can command respect on the international stage and takes on the tough domestic choices. Trudeau appears incapable of doing either. Voters need to seriously examine the ability of party leaders when making their choice on election day..It’s times like now I dearly wish we were a republic with a division of powers, where we could vote for our head of state independently of our local representatives. Perhaps, in that case, voters could still reject the CPC if they choose to, but would fire Trudeau as our national leader. As it is now, we may have four more years of woke statements and foolish actions while the peoplekind of Canada suffer..Cory Morgan is the Alberta Political Columnist for the Western Standard and Host of the Cory Morgan Show
