We’ve seen this show before. And the performances were poor the first time..The $650-million remake — a cost footed by taxpayers vexed about the early election call — has few different characters..It’s almost worth the hefty bill to see Liberal incumbent MP Maryam Monsef get booted from Ontario’s Peterborough-Kawartha riding. Monsef sent ripples of disgust across Canada when she gently called the vicious, misogynistic Taliban thugs “our brothers.”.The shock is Conservative Michelle Ferreri only won by about 3,000 votes..Monday’s wasted election is yet another example of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s poor stewardship of our money. He’s driven the nation’s net debt to more than $1 trillion with secretive spending, arrogantly holding himself accountable to no one..The final tallies aren’t in with mail-in ballots still to be counted, but hundreds of millions of dollars squandered on a gamble to win a majority landed Trudeau in virtually the same place with 155 or 157 seats for the Liberals. That’s opposed to 157 seats won in the 2019 election..Trudeau might as well have won majority, considering that NDP leader Jagmeet Singh devotes himself to propping up reckless Liberal policies..The Conservatives remain the official opposition with 121 or 122 seats. The party won 121 seats in 2019..The Bloc Quebecois landed third with a projected 31 seats, one less than last time..The NDP might pick up two seats, bringing its number of seats to 26. Edmonton Griesbach is still undecided, with NDP Blake Desjarlais holding a slight lead. What a travesty it is to see solid Conservative incumbent Kerry Diotte, who served the riding well, lose to a kid who campaigned on destroying the already crippled Alberta’s lifeblood energy industry..The Green Party won two seats as opposed to three last trek to the polls, with leader Annamie Paul being rejected by voters..The People’s Party of Canada picked up a few percentage points in the popular vote, but was shut out. Too bad. Maxime Bernier would have been a watchdog, a strong voice in Parliament where MPs of all other parties will return to toss insults at one another then agree on just about everything..Independent Derek Sloan took a gamble transplanting himself from Ontario to run in the Banff-Airdrie riding. It failed..Monday night Conservative leader Erin O’Toole said next time he “will be ready to lead Canada’s Conservatives to victory” and unity was paramount..Where was he this time? Considering Trudeau’s abysmal track record, O’Toole’s concession speech in Oshawa should have been a majority victory speech..Unity? O’Toole divided the party by flip-flopping on the carbon tax, firearms legislation, dismantling the CBC, and more. Pandering to the left and betraying his base didn’t pay off, did it? O’Toole shattered trust and failed Canada..Mercifully, there are strong Conservative MPs who’ll fight to keep Trudeau in check. Will a retrospective O’Toole finally unleash them, or will he continue to thwart their efforts with that insecure, controlling thumb?.The most disturbing part of is that Canadians flocked to the polls to vote Liberal, either oblivious or indifferent to Trudeau’s spins and lies and failings..Well, he did pay off the media with more than $600 million to ignore his faults and sing his praises. By and large media obliged. And in anticipation of more shut-up money, will continue to do so..“You are sending us back to work with a clear mandate to get Canada through this pandemic and to the brighter days ahead, and my friends, that’s exactly what we are ready to do,” declared Trudeau during his Monday night victory speech..Brighter days, huh? He’s been promising brighter days since he was first elected prime minster in 2015. Yet the dark clouds swirling over Canada keep getting darker..But Liberal voters don’t care about multiple ethics violations, inaction over money laundering from abroad that drives housing prices beyond affordability for the middle class, excessive debt, lax immigration policies putting a burden on and endangering Canadians, abandoned veterans, climate change policies that achieve nothing yet are destroying Canada’s fossil fuel industry, sending billions of dollars abroad to rogue countries while many First Nations still don’t have clean drinking water or employment prospects…it goes on. It’s all bad..What kind of a wake-up call do Liberal voters need? Soaring inflation? That’ll continue to startling levels. Rising heating costs? Already happening and bound to get worse. Buckle up for an expensive winter. Free speech stifled? He’s diligently working on it. Not enough spare change to buy their fancy Starbucks coffee?.Monday night Liberals celebrated. Their joy isn’t going to last when they’re personally hit harder by Trudeau’s failings. And it won’t take long..Still, Trudeau was down hundreds of thousands of votes. That won’t humble him or compel him to put Canada’s welfare before that of himself or his cronies or the globalists he hungers to please..Why would it? The fool who’s flushing Canada down the toilet got another pass..Slobodian is the Senior Manitoba Columnist for the Western Standard.,.lslobodian@westernstandardonline.com
