Canada has just gone through a year that is going to be the most significant in our lifetime, impacting the future of our country in ways we can’t imagine. Many Albertans are blissfully unaware the province has been one of the epicenters of a battle for control of our economic and political systems, a multi-faceted attack on the fundamental democratic principles upon which our country was built..Modelled in a book by the leader of the World Economic Forum Karl Schwab, The Great Reset, is a plan put forth in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s own words..This week, several organizations sponsored a Zoom conference, “Push Back the Great Reset “ co- sponsored by the renamed Manning Centre, the Canada Strong and Free Network. The conference examined issues surrounding this Reset agenda with presentations from the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, Canadian icon Rex Murphy, Sun News’ Anthony Furey, and Peter Foster. Topics covered how the pandemic has been used to shut down many of our democratic foundations warnings of a green depression, closing of Parliament and many of our social institutions such as churches, restaurants and public meetings..Fears that the lockdown has worked so well to shut down our society, a new lockdown, such as a climate change lockdown, might be next..Our political leaders are trying to implement this plan, a change of direction that will retool our country politically, socially, and economically. In the words of our Prime Minister,.“The pandemic has provided an opportunity for establishing a reset. This is a chance to accelerate our pre-pandemic efforts to re-imagine economic systems that actually address global challenges like poverty, inequality and climate change. Building Back Better means getting support for the most vulnerable while maintaining our momentum on reaching the 2030 Agenda, with sustainable development.”.The end of due process, warrantless searches, and other basic constitutional rights wasn’t mentioned..And while the Prime Minister’s sentiments sound saccharine and sincere, the underlying outcomes are anything but, and doubtless, the real impact of those words will resonate through society for years to come. When it is put into practice, it is going to touch every facet of our lives and reset our world without having had your permission..A former Liberal MP described in a tweet an accurate description of this battle Alberta faces. “The real crisis is an economic one, not one that deceives many into believing the world will end in 10 years and that only a crippling tax and destruction of the life enhancing hydrocarbons sector, can avert a climate Armageddon”..Front and centre is the climate change initiative to end the use of fossil fuels and, with it, the oil and gas industry. A big part of the efforts towards destroying oil and gas is financing the alternatives and putting an end to the capitalism the elites see as being part of the problem..Vivian Krause showed in recent research just how much pressure has been put on Alberta with the funding of millions to stop the province’s production of energy, and just last week as part of this initiative US President Joe Biden stopped the Keystone XL. There is another plan to stop energy from flowing into Ontario with the closure of a pipeline flowing through Minnesota, part of a reset of our economic and social foundations..Time is running out on whether we stand up and choose our path forward, or allow the powerful to choose our future for us and ignore the framework and checks our constitution has in place for making decisions..Bill Tufts is a guest columnist for the Western Standard.TWITTER: @BillTufts
