Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe is embarking on an international trade mission, traveling to Washington, D.C., and Mexico to advocate for Saskatchewan’s economic interests and strengthen trade relationships with key partners.

Moe’s first stop will be in the U.S. capital, where he will meet with elected representatives and industry organizations ahead of the Council of the Federation’s (COF) joint mission. The COF mission brings together all 13 Canadian premiers to present a united front on the importance of free trade between Canada and the U.S.

"It's important in the current economic environment that we engage with our counterparts in the United States to emphasize the shared benefit of trade between our two countries and turn the conversation towards building on those strengths rather than jeopardizing them with tariffs," said Moe.

The United States is Saskatchewan’s largest trading partner, with approximately $40 billion worth of goods crossing the border annually. Moe will use these meetings to stress the importance of tariff-free trade, which allows businesses in both countries to add value to products and economies.

A key focus of Moe’s discussions will be addressing the impact of the Trump administration’s proposed tariffs and ensuring that Canada-U.S. trade remains strong. Additionally, he will advocate for border security measures to prevent the flow of illicit drugs, including fentanyl, while maintaining efficient trade movement.

"Strengthening border security and preventing the flow of illicit drugs like fentanyl is a concern that has been identified by the U.S. and one that I share," Moe said.

"We are already taking action as a province through our Border Security Plan to ensure we have more officers and law enforcement presence at the Saskatchewan-U.S. border."

The COF meetings, scheduled for February 12, will also include discussions with U.S. business leaders and the Canada-America Business Council.

Following the Washington mission, Moe will travel to Mexico to meet with business and elected officials, reinforcing Saskatchewan’s role as a major supplier of food and energy security.

This international tour is part of a broader effort by the Saskatchewan government, with multiple cabinet ministers also traveling in the coming weeks to promote the province’s economic interests both within Canada and abroad.
