An Alberta land and development company has been fined $350,000 fine in connection to a workplace death that happened at a resort development site at Gull Lake in 2022, according to the government’s website.The company, Delta Land Co. Inc., pleaded guilty to the incident on June 30, as an employer, “to one count under the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Code for permitting a worker to remain within range of a moving part of powered mobile equipment,” reads the website.Six other counts have been withdrawn by the Crown..Delta Land Co. Inc.’s fine includes the 20% victim fine surcharge, reads the website.On November 8, 2022, the worker was performing maintenance on an excavator when he died after being caught between the boom and a grounded bucket.The convictions and penalties can be appealed within 30 days by both the company and the Crown.Alberta’s OHS laws provide guidance for employers to ensure healthy and safe workplaces.
