The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating after an officer discharged their firearm during a confrontation in central Edmonton on Tuesday afternoon.Edmonton Police Service said officers were called to an apartment building near 102 Avenue and 121 Street at around 3:15 p.m. on Aug. 12 for reports of a domestic disturbance. Police were told a man armed with multiple edged weapons was threatening people inside one of the suites.When police and Edmonton Fire Rescue Services arrived, they located a suspect matching the description provided. According to EPS, a confrontation unfolded between the armed man and another resident. During the incident, an officer fired their weapon..A video posted on X shows EPS officers raising a firefighter’s extendable ladder from a fire truck to gain a vantage point into an apartment, frowm which an EPS Officer fired their rifle.The 42-year-old suspect was treated at the scene by EMS before being taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No officers or residents were injured.Following the incident, EPS filed a Section 46.1 notification to Alberta’s Director of Law Enforcement, who directed ASIRT to take over the investigation.
