
A Grande Prairie resident allegedly stabbed two young children on February 19, leaving one with severe throat injuries that will require months of tube feeding.
Due to a publication ban, the alleged attacker cannot be identified.
One child remains at Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary with a severed esophagus, while the second has been released.
The suspect was initially held under medical supervision in a psychiatric ward but was released within 26 hours of being admitted.
Mental health advocates note that the typical hold period for someone considered a danger to themselves or others is at least 72 hours.
"One of the children will have to eat from a feeding tube for several months," the source confirmed.
"The esophagus was completely severed."
The suspect is a self-described spiritual and life coach.
According to information from sources, the suspect is an Usui Holy Fire III Reiki practitioner, oracle reader, and Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique student.
Police continue to investigate.
