Residents of Barrhead, Alberta have voted to ban rainbow pride flags and crosswalks from municipal property, reported the Canadian Press.Barrhead is approximately 120 kilometres northwest of Edmonton with 1,145 votes cast in a plebiscite, with 653 in favour of the proposed bylaw and 492 opposed to it, reported CP."The town says in a post on X that council will now go forward with second and third readings for the bylaw. The town also says it will be going ahead with removing existing crosswalks or flags that violate the bylaw," wrote CPBarrhead's brand says in part: "The town of Barrhead stands proud, in north central Alberta." Westlock, Alberta passed a similar bylaw earlier in 2024. Critics of rainbow emblems on public property argue governments should not give special rights and standing to minority groups.
