A July 8 altercation at the Alberta Springs Golf Resort, west of Red Deer, has gone viral after former NHL enforcer Nick Tarnasky was caught on video throwing a fellow golfer into a pond and throwing multiple punches during a dispute over slow play. The viral video showed Tarnasky confronting Trevor Ogilvie and a friend, who appeared intoxicated after playing 36 holes. After a tense exchange, Ogilvie shoved Tarnasky, prompting the 40-year-old former NHL forward to hurl him into the drink and issue several punches, punctuated by loud, “Bang!” exclamations when Ogilvie came back for more..In a surprising turn, Ogilvie publicly addressed the incident with an apology on Friday via Facebook.“Yup, that’s me guys, the guy who got dropped like a bucket of balls in a pond,” he said on the video.“Not my finest moment. Played 36 holes, drank way too much, and my mouth ran faster than my brain."His somber admission earned mixed reactions online, with some praising his accountability..“I lost my cool, and I’ve learned from it,” he said.“Just one of those days where you should have kept your cart on the path.”Tarnasky, who played 245 games in the NHL with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Nashville Predators, and the Florida Panthers, currently coaches the U17 AAA North Stars with Red Deer Minor Hockey. The organization confirmed it is conducting an internal investigation. The RCMP stated no charges are being pursued, as no formal complaints were filed. The Western Standard has reached out to Ogilvie for comment.
