An NDP nomination contestant is apologizing after a City News reporter accused him of transphobia for saying “you can’t change your entire biological makeup" in response to a post about Caitlyn Jenner..Saif Kaisar, an Alberta legislative reporter with City News, accused Sharif Haji, the NDP nomination contestant for Edmonton-Decore, of making “transphobic comments" on Monday. .His allegation are in regards to a 2015 tweet from Haji saying, “unfortunately you can’t change your entire biological makeup.”.The NDP candidate was responding to a post about Caitlyn Jenner, which says, “She is a woman. She is not ‘like’ a woman.” .Jenner is a biological male who won an Olympic gold medal in men's decathlon in 1974. Jenner announced she was a woman in 2015. Jenner then underwent cosmetic surgery and completed sex reassignment surgery in January 2017. .Jenner is now a Fox News contributor and supported the ban on biological males from woman sports.."If you go through male puberty you should not be able to take medals away from females," Jenner said in a post to Twitter on Sunday — a seeming acknowledgement that one can't change their biological makeup. .Still, Haji deleted and apologized for his 2015 tweet, saying “it was hurtful, wrong, and because I don’t hold that view.”.“I unreservedly apologize for my actions and the harms they have caused. The post I made in 2015 was factually wrong.”.Kaisar also said the NDP told him they did not find Sharif’s “offensive” tweet as part of vetting..“The elected table offices have seen the apology and the commitment to the work in the days ahead,” reads a statement from the NDP. .“They look forward to seeing progress on that work immediately.”
