The City of Edmonton has deactivated its extreme weather response for the cold weather effective Monday because of temperatures expected to improve. The City of Edmonton said the final night of operation for the west route overnight shuttle service was Sunday, with it starting that evening and ending Monday morning. “We thank the Government of Alberta and community partners for providing safe and warm shelter spaces for vulnerable Edmontonians and people experiencing homelessness during this extreme cold,” said City of Edmonton Director, Affordable Housing and Homelessness Hani Quan in a Sunday press release. The extreme weather response was activated on November 24 due to the extreme cold. The City of Edmonton had been running three dedicated overnight shuttle routes to transport people to shelters. To help transport people to available shelter spaces, it said the two overnight shelter shuttle buses will continue to operate north and south routes every night between 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. until March 31. Bus route maps can be found at edmonton.ca/extremeweather.It said the Edmonton navigation centre — operated by the Alberta government and Hope Mission — continues to offer access to 24/7 emergency shelter, income and ID support, health services, housing support and a pet-friendly service.
