Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has appointed Tara Sawyer, chairperson of Alberta Grains and a resident of Acme, as the UCP candidate for the Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills byelection, with the date to be determined."I am an accomplished community leader with extensive volunteer experience and a commitment to agriculture advocacy and youth development," Sawyer wrote on LinkedIn. "I have proven success in advancing not-for-profits through board engagement, community involvement and grassroots participation. As a business owner, I have experience working on the farm. Connecting people with the food they eat is key to my strategy for agriculture outreach."If elected, Sawyer would replace MLA Nathan Cooper, who resigned to accept a diplomatic post after a tenure as speaker of the legislature.Sawyer has extensive experience managing accounting and paperwork for her family farm. She also has expertise in public relations through promoting local agriculture, market development and trade."I take my role incredibly seriously," Sawyer told the Western Producer about her position with Alberta Grains. "I don't take my leadership role lightly, so I put a lot of time, care and thought into what I'm doing. I believe in collaboration. I believe in strong governance. I lead with integrity."
