The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) charged one man in relation to two arsons at a southeast Edmonton Indian restaurant..“This targeted arson occurred in broad daylight with citizens and children nearby,” said EPS Det. Jessie Poonian..On July 30, EPS responded to the report of a fire at a specialty meat shop located in the area of 34 Street and 34 Avenue..CCTV footage shows a man running towards Mann Meats & Indian Cuisine on 34 Street NW in the first attack, breaking a window while throwing a firebomb. The Molotov cocktail breaks and flames on the sidewalk. Two days later, on August 1, a similar incident occurred at the same location where it was reported a man had thrown a Molotov cocktail toward the front of the business, causing a fire..After further investigation, EPS determined the incidents were connected..“We are grateful no one was injured and the fire was quickly extinguished before it had a chance to spread to other businesses nearby,” Poonian said..On October 25, Gregory Lewis, 43, was charged with arson, arson with disregard for human life, possessing incendiary material, and disguise with intent in relation to both incidents..It's unclear if the attacks were racially motivated.
