Alberta NDP leader Rachel Notley says UCP leadership candidate Danielle Smith and her sovereignty act are "political theater."."Danielle Smith has released the details of her proposed Sovereignty Act. The details were exactly what we expected them to be nonsense at best disastrous at worse," Notley said in a video posted to Twitter.."This unconstitutional act introduces ideas that would be terrible for businesses, institutions and our economy. At a time when folks are looking for hope and certainty. This delivers precisely the opposite the money it will cost to defend this in court. Your taxpayers dollars will also be utterly wasted," Notley said..Smith released an overview of the proposed Alberta Sovereignty Act on Tuesday. ."Alberta doesn't have time for these dangerous games. We need to focus on ensuring the everyday things we take for granted. Gasoline groceries, rents mortgages are affordable, said Notley.."We need to enhance and diversify our economy and make it more resilient and we need to focus on creating mortgage paying jobs for Albertans. The Sovereignty Act is political theater, designed to divide us. Albertans deserve better from their leaders. That's what the Alberta NDP is focused on making our province a better place to be.".Twitter users were quick to defend Smith against Notley's attack. ."With respect Ms. Notley, the Sovereignty Act does make sense. Alberta can continue doing the same old things, whine in slightly different monotones and get the same old results; or courageously try something new. Ms. Smith is courageously taking a new path. Many of us salute her," Twitter user Don Martin said..“Disastrous”!? Evidence please. Those are words of fear, anger and division. We deserve better from our elected officials," another Twitter user said..Other Twitter users agreed with Notley.."Ms. Notley for sure we aren’t the same stripe and a lot of the time I certainly don’t agree with Your Politics (my opinion) but in this case I would agree this Sovereignty Act is a Train wreck looking for a place to happen and Ms. Smith wants it to be in Alberta," retired police officer Buck Buchanan said..The Smith Campaign declined to comment on Notley's video.
