Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's Chief of Staff Rob Anderson lashed out at federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh on Sunday in response to Singh's criticism of Smith's visit to Mar-a-Lago to converse with President-elect Donald Trump.
"Nothing to see here, Canada," wrote Singh on X. "Just Canadian Conservatives celebrating with Donald Trump and Billionaires — days after they threatened to annex Canada. And, just days before they launch a full-scale assault on the Canadian economy, jobs and your family."
Anderson responded, calling Singh a "feckless moron."
"What’s your plan Jagmeet?" wrote Anderson. "Abandon diplomacy altogether and arm your Maserati to defend our border from the full scale assault? Get a bloody grip already."
Singh and other Canadian politicians are concerned over Trump's threat to impose a 25% tariff on Canadian goods unless Canada resolves its border security problems.
Some say Smith's Mara-a-Lago trip was important in terms of cultivating diplomacy for Canada in the absence of Justin Trudeau.
Smith was the guest of Kevin O'Leary at the Mar-a-Lago event.
Anderson, 47, has a notable background in law and politics. A lawyer by profession, he has been involved in Alberta politics for over a decade.
He has a history with conservative movements in Alberta, having affiliations with both the Progressive Conservative Party and the Wildrose Party before these merged to form the United Conservative Party.
