Canadians have become lazy, woke, stupid, arrogant and nearly unable to defend themselves — it's a terrible combination given the impending disaster with Canada-U.S. relations. Today, President Donald Trump took another step towards crushing the Canadian economy, saying at the World Economic Forum that America doesn't need Canadian natural resources. All this, while the clock ticks on a brutal 25% tariff on Canadian goods that could drive the country into Paraguay-like stagnation and poverty. Our defender and chief, Justin Trudeau, has suspended parliament for the sake of vanity as Liberals find a new leader — Carney or Freeland. Trump is advancing. The efforts of Alberta Premier Danielle Smith to iron-out Canada-U.S. relations may fall flat as Trump "makes America great again." Smith, Moe, Ford and others may have to get tough — either way, the outcome is bad unless Trump changes his mind.Today at the World Economic Forum Trump said, "We have a tremendous (trade) deficit with Canada. We're not going to have that anymore. We can't do it. I don't know if it's good for them, as you probably know I say, you can always become a state." Trump continued, "Then if you're a state, we won't have a deficit. We won't have to tariff you. But Canada has been very tough to deal with over the years, and it's not fair that we should have a $200 billion or $250 billion (trade) deficit."Trump added, "We don't need them to make our cars, and they make a lot of them. We don't need their lumber because we have our own forests. We don't need their oil and gas. We have more than anybody."Trump is misguided. He needs Canadian lumber and other natural resources..Trump also needs Alberta oil and gas. In 2023, Canadian total oil exports to the U.S. were approximately 3.85 million barrels per day. In 2024 the number was around 4.3 million barrels per day.Canada has the fourth largest oil reserves on earth. The U.S. is ninth.Canada is vulnerable economically and socially. Trudeau, Freeland and others have doubled the national debt, run huge inflationary deficits and forced millions of Canadians into poverty. Many people can't afford food. The health-care system has crashed.Canada is defenceless as a new generation of university graduates — schooled in gender studies and social justice — struggle to find work as millions of immigrants pour into the country. Instead of building and inventing, many of Canada's intelligentsia have take to the streets in protest against Jews. Around 120 Christian churches in Canada have been vandalized, set ablaze, or burned to the ground in recent years. There must be a massive social, economic, and political shift in Canada before it's too late. In the end, Trump might be doing Canadians a favour. In the words of G. Michael Hopf, “Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men.
