Alberta Mental Health and Addiction Minister Dan Williams blasted NDP leader Naheed Nenshi for mocking Christians. “I mean this is so deeply inappropriate anywhere, especially here in our legislature,” said Williams in a Thursday video. “And it’s so deeply inappropriate for anyone to say, especially someone who believes that they should be the leader of our province.”.Nenshi had confirmed after a press scrum in the Alberta Legislature Rotunda Wednesday he believed the United Conservative Party hates Christmas. “I wanted to say the UCP hates Baby Jesus,” said Nenshi. After he made this remark, certain reporters started to laugh with him. While Williams is not into gotcha politics and pointing fingers, he said it was inappropriate for Nenshi to make this joke, especially in the rotunda. He asked people to imagine if the roles were switched. He called for people to imagine if an Alberta UCP cabinet minister made fun of Muhammad on an important Muslim feast day. In this case, he said people would have been rightfully offended because it is inappropriate to make those comments. Williams concluded by saying Nenshi needs to apologize for the joke he made. Although he might not have intended it, he said it was offensive. “And I hope Mr. Nenshi rises to the occasion and apologizes, because I don’t think Christians want to stand for being made fun of by Mr. Nenshi or by anyone and not in the house and seat of our democracy here in Alberta,” he said. Nenshi could not be reached for comment in time for publication.A national campaign to promote December as Christian Heritage Month had been stonewalled in Alberta as of Thursday..Edmonton, Calgary, UCP government stall Christian Heritage Month declaration.Christian Music Festival CEO Molly Banerjei said she emailed Alberta Premier Danielle Smith about Christian Heritage Month and saw her at the Calgary Prayer Breakfast (CPB) on October 17.
