WATCH — NDP drop flag from windows in protest over Smith's upcoming U.S. visit

The Alberta NDP are seething over Premier Danielle Smith's upcoming visit to the U.S. where she will speak at an event hosted by conservative think tank and digital media producer PragerU — held by progressives as a promoter of racism and wrong-think.Smith will join conservative Jew and media personality Ben Shapiro at the event. The NDP doesn't like that, either. On Tuesday around noon therefore, Alberta NDP leader Naheed Nenshi and colleagues, in protest, unveiled a massive Canadian flag from windows of the Queen Elizabeth II building adjacent to the Alberta Legislature. A 10 out of 10 for creativity — 10 out of 10 for hysteria..The NDP sang the national anthem — an emotional prophylactic to shield themselves from the horror of Smith's trip — which is intended to promote Alberta industry and economic partnerships.Maybe President Donald Trump will listen to Smith's speech and experience some lucidity — but that's unlikely.Maybe Ben Shapiro will champion Alberta's cause — also unlikely.It was difficult to keep track of Nenshi's moralistic sermonizing at the flag dropping event. He characterized Smith as a terrible person and politician while placing himself on the side of "Alberta values.".Nenshi is a top-level intellectual, savvy political leader and decent person. He cares about Canada — which is now fashionable given Trump's aggression.Nenshi is liked by his colleagues and handles reporters' questions with ease. However, if he wants to win over Alberta voters, he must choose between progressive virtue signalling/left wing moralism and his formidable capacity to govern.He must, somehow, present a vision for Alberta's future apart from political correctness.He must share an economic vision.He must rise above hurt feelings, real or imagined. .The Western Standard asked Nenshi at the flag unveiling, "Dropping a flag out of a window is a nice gesture but ultimately, what does it say about your capacity to govern Alberta?"He responded, "I actually want the premier to look out her window and see that flag, because she has forgotten what this country is, what this country has brought to her and her grandparents who immigrated here. She's forgotten what this country stands for. And I think most Albertans are disgusted by that."
