WATCH: Five survive Pennsylvania plane crash

Christopher Oldcorn

All five people aboard a small plane survived a fiery crash near Lancaster Airport on Sunday afternoon.

The single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza went down around 3:18 pm EST, shortly after takeoff, crashing in the parking lot of the Brethren Village retirement community in Manheim Township.

While the aircraft burst into flames upon impact, damaging about a dozen parked vehicles, all five passengers were taken to local hospitals and survived.

Local officials said no injuries were reported on the ground, and retirement community buildings were untouched.

Eyewitnesses reported the plane starting to take off before turning sharply to the left and nosediving into the parking lot.

Air traffic control audio captured the pilot reporting an open door and requesting to return to the airport moments before the crash.

The flight was headed to Springfield, Ohio.

The Transportation Safety Board and the FAA have launched investigations.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro said state police are assisting local authorities.

This plane crash comes just a month after a tragic air ambulance crash in Philadelphia that claimed seven lives.
