WATCH: Trump vows to hit back at EU tariffs

President Donald Trump signalled on Wednesday that he plans to retaliate against the European Union (EU) for what he calls “unfair trade practices.”

During a press conference, Trump alleged the EU was designed to “take advantage of the United States,” pointing specifically to Ireland and its trade policies.

Trump insisted previous US presidents failed to protect America’s interests, claiming they “lacked business experience.”

Trump focused on automobiles from the EU coming into the US, arguing that millions of foreign cars arrive every year while American vehicles face issues being imported into the EU.

He also drew attention to American agriculture, stating that European countries refuse to accept “the greatest farm products in the world,” even though the US imports EU agriculture products.

Throughout the press conference, Trump repeatedly declared he would “win that financial battle” against the EU.

Trump expressed disappointment, calling the relationship “unbalanced.”

Trump maintained that the US should never have allowed the EU’s advantage in the first place, but said he would correct the situation.

This latest pledge comes amid heightened tension over tariffs, as Washington and Brussels trade accusations of economic protectionism.

With rumours of new tariffs circulating, industry experts worry about the potential impact on global supply chains.

However, Trump remains defiant, emphasizing his plan to strike back and restore what he views as “fairer terms.”

Despite criticism from trade partners, Trump said he is determined to defend American workers and businesses, asserting that he will not back down.
