Saskatchewan man found dead in Winnipeg, possible homicide

Christopher Oldcorn

Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) are investigating after the body of a Saskatchewan man was discovered in a back lane near Wellington Ave.on March 28.

The victim, Bronson Emery Dale Kequahtooway, 30, was originally from Zagime Anishinabek First Nation, located about 150 kilometres east of Regina.

WPS says they were called to the Daniel McIntyre neighbourhood for a report of “suspicious circumstances,” where they found Kequahtooway’s body in a garbage bin.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have confirmed that Kequahtooway had been living in Winnipeg.

Two area residents, including one who contacted 911, said they spotted what they believed to be a man’s body in the bin early in the morning on March 28.

Police cordoned off part of the back lane between Home and Arlington streets, keeping several garbage and recycling bins behind the police tape while they gathered evidence.

The WPS’s homicide unit is now leading the investigation and has notified Kequahtooway’s family.

Officers have not released information about possible suspects or motives, but are calling on the public for any tips.
