A musical about accused murderer Luigi Mangione is set to premier in San Francisco on June 13 — and tickets are already sold out.
The 26-year-old will not be able to watch his likeness portrayed on stage, however, as he is still locked up across the country in New York awaiting trial for allegedly assassinating UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
The hour-long musical has been labelled by its creators as "a wildly irreverent, razor-sharp comedy that imagines the true story of Luigi Mangione, the alleged corporate assassin turned accidental folk hero."
"Bold, campy, and unafraid," the description reads, "Luigi: the Musical is both laugh-out-loud funny and surprisingly thoughtful. If you like your comedy smart and your show tunes with a criminal record, Luigi is your new favorite felony."
Mangione is not the only convicted criminal currently in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center portrayed in the musical. It also features accused sex trafficker Diddy and alleged fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried, both of whom are awaiting trial in the infamous prison.
Nova Bradford is the director and writer, alongside Arielle Johnson, Caleb Zeringue, and Andre Margatini. It is produced by Caleb Zeringue. The musical stars Jonny Stein as Mangione, Janeé Lucas as Diddy, and André Margatini as Bankman-Fried.
Five performances at the Taylor Street Theatre are already sold out, however the crew has revealed that more dates will be announced soon.
Mangione was arrested not long after allegedly carrying out the December 2024 killing. He has since pleaded not guilty. Attorney General Pam Bondi has made it clear prosecutors will seek the death penalty if he is deemed responsible.
