Andrew Scheer has been chosen by the Conservative caucus to serve as interim Opposition leader.
The Regina-Qu'Appelle MP is expected to hold the position until Pierre Poilievre wins a seat and is able to take over again.
"I'll be taking over the parliamentary leadership duties of the caucus until Mr. Poilievre rejoins us in the House," Scheer told reporters on Tuesday.
He vowed to continue holding the Liberals to account, adding that the Conservatives would like to see Prime Minister Carney come out of his talks with Trump with a deal that benefits Canada.
