OTTAWA — A man is critically injured in the wake of a police-involved shooting that occurred at Ottawa’s Rideau Centre mall the day after the federal election.
Ottawa police issued a statement about the shooting, that occurred between Sussex and Dalhousie, near 50 Rideau St.
“The doors to the Rideau Centre are locked,” said police.
“There is no active threat to public safety. No outstanding suspects.”
Dacey Media posted a video of officers standing by as a man on the ground received medical attention.
One person has been arrested, said Dacey, warning people to avoid the area.
A CTV journalist who was in the building at the time of the lockdown reported paramedics said one man was taken to hospital in critical condition.
The shooting happened at approximately 2:05 p.m. local time. The lockdown was cleared at about 2:30 p.m.
A Global News journalist also in the mall at the time of the shooting said it was a "weapons-related situation," per an announcement over the mall speakers.
The CBC reported lanes are blocked around the Sussex/Rideau/Colonel By Dr. intersection, with increased traffic backup in the area and an unknown duration.
