'We need your prayers and support against this injustice towards Christianity'

Embattled Alberta Christian minister Derek Reimer was arrested Thursday for holding a "church gathering" before his trial on May 2.

"The service was held in front of the courthouse," said his wife, Mona, on Facebook. "I'm writing this post to invite you all to gather in prayers and support for my husband. He was arrested today in the afternoon during his (parole officer) appointment. His (parole officer) breached him for holding a church gathering before his trial. We need your prayers and support against this injustice towards Christianity. If we will not stand up now for this then when?"

Reimer leads Mission7, a Calgary-based Christian street ministry. He has faced multiple legal issues, primarily for protesting drag queen story time events at Calgary public libraries, which he calls “pervert grooming sessions.”

“I can't stop doing what God has called us to do," Reimer said previously. "I know realistically I will end up back in there (jail).”

In 2022, he was arrested for street preaching under a city injunction. In 2020, he was fined for feeding the homeless during COVID-19 restrictions. In 2023, Reimer faced multiple arrests for disrupting drag queen events, charged with mischief, causing a disturbance, criminal harassment, and breaching bail conditions.

He was acquitted of some charges, including mischief in 2024, but convicted of harassment and breaches, receiving a one-year house arrest sentence in January 2025.

“If adults want to engage in the adult entertainment of drag, that’s their decision," he said in a 2023 interview. "They’re consenting adults. Although when you involve a little child, now that’s the innocent.”

In 2025, he said, “I just want to thank everyone who has supported me, who has sent messages of encouragement, prayers, donations. It’s really helped me stay strong through all of this. They tried to break me, but Jesus is my strength and I will never stop preaching the truth.”
