Despite being prime minister for only two weeks, Mark Carney has already dedicated over $2 million of tax dollars to sexual minorities.
On March 21, the Department of Women and Gender Equality Canada announced the Carney Liberals were sending $2,118,000 to sexual minority groups in Canada, especially Quebec.
Both press releases to announce the funding began with the words, "Everyone deserves the freedom to be their authentic selves...safe, valued, and empowered," before detailing the grants.
Three organizations in Quebec will receive up to $718,000. The Quebec grants include $228,511 to a group “for their project Awareness and Engagement in Rural Communities that will address the barriers to equality faced by 2SLGBTQI+ communities.”
Another $241,743, will go to "Helping 2SLGBTQI+ Youth Thrive and Addressing HIV Through More Inclusive Sex Education." Here, Portail VIH/SIDA du Québec will use research, workshops, and practical tools to enhance public understanding, provide tailored resources, and recommend improvements to better support 2SLGBTQI+ youth in sexual health education."
Finally, Queer Tech is receiving $247,221 to survey tech professionals to see how well sexual minorities are represented.
“With this investment, we stand alongside 2SLGBTQI+ communities in Québec in addressing systemic barriers to equality,” said Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Culture and Identity, Parks Canada. “Together, we are working to challenge discrimination in all its forms."
Montreal MP Marc Miller said, “Our country and our community in Montreal are stronger thanks to our diversity...Long live Canada!"
Élisabeth Brière, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Minister responsible for the Canada Revenue Agency, said the tax dollars for community organizations were "exactly how we can aspire to a society where everyone can be their authentic self, without fear."
Egale Canada will receive $148,800 to fund a “pride” summit to address "systemic barriers to inclusion and fostering advocacy capacity."
Another $21,420 is earmarked to create a governance body for Prescott-Russell LGBTQ + Allies Group.
Northreach Society is receiving $352,588 for the project 2SLGBTQ+ Community Needs Assessment that will explore the needs and barriers faced by sexual minority youth, aged 13-29, in Grande Prairie, Alberta, by conducting a needs assessment. A toolkit including findings and resources will be shared with stakeholders in the community and used to develop programs and services to "advance equality."
Meanwhile, Intersex Canada will get $874,285 “for their project Enhancing Support and Visibility for Intersex Individuals within the 2SLGBTQI+ and broader Canadian society...with a focus on collaboration with Indigenous and racialized communities in Canada.”
Although researcher Anne Fausto-Sterling alleged intersex people amounted to 1.7% of the population, a research paper in Pub Med said a precise definition left this number at just 0.018%. Based on Canada's population on January 1, that would amount to almost 750,000 people, though only 225,000 would be non-whites.
The grants come just a week after sexual minority groups slammed Carney for eliminating the position of Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth in his cabinet. The groups openly questioned if Carney would fund their causes, prompting a coalition of 200 sexual minority groups to send him a letter.
Campaign Life Coalition’s Pete Baklinski told LifeSiteNews that “by funding these pro-LGBT groups, Carney is showing where his allegiance lies and that he will continue his predecessor’s advancement of sexual and gender ideologies during leadership.”
“Carney is signalling that he is no different than Trudeau when it comes to advancing ideologies that undermine marriage, assault the fundamental cell of society which is the family, and push ideologies on children that are both abusive and destructive,” he continued.
Investigative blogger Pat Maloney estimates Canada spent $108,594,964 on sexual minority ideology in 2022 and $665,454,357 in 2023. Maloney reported that in 2024 Canada gave LGBT activists $6,469,076, up from the previous three years, where $12,548,238 was spent in total.
After Trudeau announced his pending resignation, he pledged $41.5 million tax dollars for 106 sexual minority projects, LifeSiteNews reports. The news page also estimates the Trudeau government spent $11.2 billion on “gender”-based programs in foreign countries over ten years.
