The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over an investigation into the suspicious death of a 22-year-old woman in Pemberton.
Pemberton RCMP responded to a call around 10 a.m. on February 22 in the 7400 block of Prospect Street, where they found an unresponsive woman.
Despite efforts from first responders, including British Columbia Emergency Health Services (BCEHS), she was declared dead at the scene.
Following consultation with the BC Coroners Service, the woman’s death was deemed suspicious, prompting IHIT to take conduct of the case.
The deceased has been identified as Tabitha Peters of Pemberton.
Authorities say initial evidence suggests the incident was isolated, with no ongoing risk to the public. IHIT is working closely with Pemberton RCMP, Squamish RCMP, Whistler RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS), and the BC Coroners Service.
“We are in the beginning stages of our investigation,” said Cpl. Esther Tupper of IHIT. “We’re asking anyone with information to please come forward.”
IHIT is urging anyone with details about the case to contact their information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
