Freedom Convoy organizer Tamara Lich has called out Tory leader Pierre Poilievre for failing to distinguish himself from the Liberals, and instead repeating leftist sentiments.
Lich’s comments followed a post from Poilievre claiming President Donald Trump “wants our jobs.”
“Carney’s carbon tax on Canadian industry will help Trump take them,” added Poilievre in a social media post.
“Trump wants our jobs?!?” replied Lich.
“This is a disappointing take from you and your team. Trump wants border security to prevent drugs and terrorists from entering his country.”
“You’re starting to sound like all the rest of them and it’s not a good look.”
The comments under Lich’s post indicate many Canadians are frustrated with Poilievre’s lukewarm Conservative leadership on some issues, namely his unwillingness to remove Canada from global agreements such as the 2015 Paris Accords, and failure to denounce mass immigration.
Lich and co-organizer Chris Barber were arrested and jailed for mischief during the 2022 COVID-19 mandate protest in Ottawa.
Lich and Barber are still waiting to receive their verdict after a trial that lasted more than a year. On March 12 Justice Heather Perkins-McVey will rule whether they are innocent or guilty. The Crown is asking for the maximum 10-year sentence.
Poilievre to-date has not said a single word about their trial, though he proclaims to have supported the truckers during the time of the Freedom Convoy.
In an interview from December 2022 with then True North commentator Andrew Lawton, Poilievre was asked specifically about Lich.
“I’m not going to talk about any particular individual, because she has a case before the courts," replied Poilievre.
“I haven’t studied every single person’s conduct over that two or three week period.”
“But I can say the vast majority of people that I witnessed who participated seemed to just be doing the normal Canadian peaceful protest.
“Now there are people who behaved badly or blockaded critical infrastructure.”
Nearly a year later, at the beginning of the Lich and Barber trial in September 2023, Poilievre was asked about the trial again by Rebel News.
"We will see, there has been no trial yet," replied Poilievre.
When asked if it was "fair to have a trial like this," Poilievre said, "I don't understand the question."
"I can't comment on something that hasn't happened."
