Two people "known to police" have been arrested in Prince George.
The unnamed offenders were charged with "multiple offenses," but subsequently released back into the community.
According to the Prince George RCMP, officers were on routine patrol on the Hart Highway near Houghtaling Rd. shortly before 11 a.m. on Monday January 20 when they noticed a pick-up truck driving "committing several motor vehicle infractions."
When police tried to initiate a traffic stop, the truck fled with little regard for the icy conditions. Rather than pursue the vehicle, officers hung back and instead patrolled the area where it was last seen driving. Before long, the truck appeared and was brought to a halt via a carefully placed spike belt and nearby snowbank.
Both the driver and passenger of the truck were arrested and taken into custody. Their truck, meanwhile was searched. Officers discovered suspected fentanyl and drug paraphernalia, a loaded firearm, and ammunition. The drugs and gun were sent to a lab to be tested.
"Both suspects were subsequently released, pending the laboratory results of evidence seized, Cpl. Jennifer Cooper explained, noting that this is "a standard practice when evidence requires testing by outside partner agencies."
