Police in both the township and city of Langley have ramped up traffic enforcement as of late amid calls from the public to crack down on those wreaking havoc on the roads.

As a result of their efforts, over 100 speeding tickets were issued in a period of less than a month.

According to the Langley RCMP, officers handed out 120 tickets between December 15 and January 6.

Over half of those, 63, occurred in school zones or playground zones. A further 49 were violations of speed in municipality.

Eight people were caught driving with "excessive speed," meaning they were going more than 41 km/h over the limit. In those cases, perpetrators had their vehicles impounded for seven days.

In the most extreme instances, the drivers were caught travelling 112 km/h in a 50 km/h zone, 62 km/h over the limit.

"We all have a role to play when to comes to making our roads and communities safer, so please slow down and drive responsibly," Langley RCMP Sgt. Zynal Sharoom said. "Remember, road safety is life safety."
