MaKami College has officially completed its transition to a public post-secondary institution by becoming a not-for-profit college, marking the end of a process that began in March 2023.

The transition required MaKami to meet all regulatory and legislative requirements under the Private Vocational Training Act and the Post-Secondary Learning Act.

The move aligns the college with other provincial institutions while reaffirming its commitment to serving the public.

“Transitioning to a not-for-profit institution has always been part of our vision for establishing a lasting legacy as a college,” said MaKami College President and CEO Marija Pavkovic-Tovissi.

“This move not only aligns us with other provincial institutions but also demonstrates our continued commitment to serving the public interest.”

The Pavkovic family founded MaKami College in 2001 and has grown from a private vocational institution into a community-focused school offering a range of student support services, including free tutoring, ESL programs, counselling, food security initiatives, and addiction support.

With campuses in Edmonton and Calgary, the college has in-person and online learning opportunities. Programs include Advanced Clinical Massage Therapy, Early Childhood Education, Medical Office Assistant, Personal Training, Health Care Aide, Business Administrative Assistant, and more.

“This is the right decision for our college, our students, and the communities we serve,” Pavkovic-Tovissi said.
