A man was fatally injured during a police operation in Beaver County on Monday, prompting an independent investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT).
The incident occurred around 12:10 p.m. when members of the Tofield RCMP Detachment attended a rural residence to arrest a man wanted on outstanding warrants.
Officers established containment around the property, alerted neighbouring residents for safety, and called in the Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team from Edmonton for assistance.
During the interaction with the suspect, the man was fatally injured. Despite immediate life-saving measures, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
No other individuals, including members of the public or RCMP officers, were harmed during the incident.
As required by law, the Director of Law Enforcement was promptly notified, leading to ASIRT’s deployment to conduct an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatality.
Tofield is 70 km east of Edmonton.
