A man is in critical condition following a stabbing attack in Port Alberni over the weekend.
The suspect was apprehended and subsequently charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
According to the Port Alberni RCMP, the incident took place around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2024, on the 3000 block of 4th Avenue. When officers arrived on scene, they discovered an adult male suffering from multiple stab wounds.
The BC Ambulance Service was called, however they were busy dealing with other emergencies. As a result, the RCMP took matters into their own hands and took action to transport the victim to the hospital. A police officer carried the injured man out of the two-storey building himself and accompanied him in the backseat of the vehicle, applying pressure to his wounds en route. The victim was stabilized at a local hospital before being transferred to another medical facility for advanced treatment.
A short time later, the RCMP used additional police resources to assist with the investigation, and executed a search warrant. The suspect was apprehended, and held in custody.
RCMP said the suspect and the victim are known to each other, though neither's identity has been released to the public.
"Our members made critical decisions and acted swiftly to get the victim the life-saving medical attention he needed," Insp. Kim Bruce said.
