NDP candidate's remarks on Jews spark controversy

A New Democratic Party candidate's claims that Jewish lobbyists control the federal cabinet have sparked controversy, with the party declining to comment.

Blacklock's Reporter says Ehab Mustapha, running in Mississauga-Erin Mills, made the remarks on Instagram, stating that "Trudeau and the Liberals aren’t working for us, they’re working for lobbyists."

Mustapha's comments followed party leader Jagmeet Singh's 2021 pledge to more thoroughly vet candidates after two nominees were removed for anti-Jewish remarks.

Mustapha, an insurance analyst and son of Palestinian immigrants, also confirmed his membership in Mississauga's Palestine House, which has retweeted antisemitic messages.

Palestine House's social media posts have included accusations of Israel committing "classic ethnic cleansing" and endorsing a boycott of Indigo Books & Music, whose CEO is Jewish.

When Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre expressed outrage over antisemitism in Canada, Palestine House retweeted a message accusing Jews of directing a Holocaust.

Singh has promised tighter scrutiny of candidates, stating that "antisemitism is real" and the party will not tolerate anti-Jewish bigotry.

The party's Policy On Discrimination forbids derogatory communication, stereotypes, and generalizations based on prohibited grounds under the Canadian Human Rights Act, including religion .
