Amid speculation that Justin Trudeau's days as leader of the Liberals are numbered, the party has released a new campaign ad with him in a starring role.
In the ad, the prime minister took aim at his competitor Pierre Poilievre, claiming Canadians would "pay the price" if they decide to elect a Conservative government.
"2025 is just around the corner, and that means that we're almost in an election year," Trudeau began. "Our Liberal plan has been investing in you to deliver $10-a-day child care, dental care, pharma care, and more affordable homes."
He went on to claim that, "our work to build a strong economy that works for all Canadians isn't done, and all of our progress is at stake with Pierre Poilievre and the Conservative Party pushing for deep cuts to the programs Canadians rely on."
"Only with your support," Trudeau concluded, "can we keep building a better future for everyone."
The ad comes as more and more people both in the general population and within the Liberal Party call on Trudeau to resign. Over the weekend, Calgary Skyview MP George Chahal penned a letter to the prime minister asking him to do just that. His sentiments were shared by the entire Atlantic Liberal caucus.
In the face of mounting criticism, however, Trudeau has remained steadfast in his commitment to stay on as leader, showing no signs, publicly at least, of stepping down.
