Van Isle RCMP officer suspended with pay following sexual assault charges

A police officer on Vancouver Island has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count of uttering threats.

Ladysmith RCMP Cnst. Jason Elias Sammoun was hit with the charges on December 30, and was subsequently suspended with pay.

According to the Nanaimo Bulletin, the sexual assaults allegedly took place in Nanaimo on April 1, 2024, with the threats allegedly uttered later that day in Victoria.

In a statement, Staff Sgt. Kris Clark confirmed that Sammoun "is currently suspended with pay and his duty status is subject to continuous review and assessment."

"Immediately upon learning of the circumstances," he added, "a code of conduct investigation was initiated and remains ongoing."

Sammoun is set to appear in court in Nanaimo on January 30.
