A man has been arrested and charged after an attempted robbery at a downtown Calgary CTrain station on Sunday afternoon.
At approximately 1:40 p.m. on March 23, a woman was standing on the south side of the Third Street S.E. CTrain station when she was approached by an unknown man.
According to police, the suspect grabbed her water bottle, splashed her in the face, and then shook her while demanding her cellphone.
The man fled without taking the phone, and the victim called police. Witnesses assisted officers in locating the suspect, who was arrested a short time later in East Village.
Braydon Joseph James French, 31, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of attempted robbery.
Police say the incident is not believed to be racially motivated, but the Diversity Resource Team is engaging with affected community members.
The victim has been offered support and is asking for privacy.
“Thanks to the support of witnesses in the area and to the swift actions of our members, we were able to make an arrest within 25 minutes of this incident,” said Calgary Police Service District 1 Insp. Jason Bobrowich.
“These types of incidents cause concern in the community and will not be tolerated in our city.”
