Liberal leader Mark Carney attended a meet-and-greet at a local cafe in Cambridge, ON, on Friday night, drawing a crowd of about 150 people, by official estimate.

The Western Standard was one of only a few media permitted to enter the cafe, while the rest were asked to wait outside due to capacity issues.

Monigram Coffee Roasters is a fairly small space, but there was a crowd of people waiting outside for Carney to appear. The Liberal leader’s wife, Diana Fox Carney, was present, as was Liberal candidate Bryan May.

Multiple Carney supporters were asked to comment on recent polls and why they support the Liberals, but each declined to speak with the Western Standard.

Carney walked from one end of the coffee shop to the other, shaking hands and chatting with people. He and his wife had a flat white coffee and chatted with the owner, Monica Braun.

Braun and her late husband, Graham, who passed away in January, named the cafe “Monigram," a blend of their first names.

The Liberal leader then came outside to address the crowd from the stairs. He opened his greetings with remarks about the Stanley Cup playoffs, and said he was counting on Ontarians to vote for his party this upcoming election. He only spoke for about 45 seconds.
