SNELL: Smith's patriotism shines as Carney outed in Chinese election interference scandal

'Carney may win the federal election — and that says a lot about Canadians'

James Snell

If Liberal Leader Mark Carney wins the federal election on April 28 — and his relationship with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith remains status quo — a great deal of trouble is on the horizon.

Over the weekend, Carney ridiculed Smith at a campaign event over her U.S. diplomacy efforts — which were unprecedented. Smith made multiple trips to the U.S., meeting with President Donald Trump and others, trying to negotiate a better outcome for Canada and Alberta in the ongoing trade war.

She was called "reckless" by the Alberta NDP — who are sounding more and more like Liberal apologists. The storm clouds of independence are building as the insults accumulate.

While Carney criticizes Smith's patriotism, news broke Monday that China is helping him in the election — using the WeChat app as a promotional tool.

The news is confirmation of what many Canadians already know — there was very little accountability for Chinese election interference over the years, or recently.

Carney has deep connections with China — Brookfield Asset Management, his former company, secured a loan from the Bank of China, with reports indicating the amount was between $250 million and $276 million.

He should be ashamed of himself and immediately withdraw from the election. But he won't — and millions of Canadians equally shameful — are too stupid and apathetic to change their politics.

Carney may win the federal election — and that says a lot about Canadians, who've been brainwashed over the last 10 years to dislike their country.

In the meantime, Smith has emerged as a diamond in Canadian politics. The diamond may have flaws, but it's tougher than steel and more attractive than Carney — who is nothing more than a dull rock in a quarry of deception and manipulation.
